Albers and his wife Anni travelled to Mexico more than a dozen times from the 1930s onward, and the stepped pyramids and carved stonework of Monte Alban, Mitla and Teotihuacan show up in the geometry of his Variants and Homage to the Square series. The book sets the two bodies of work side by side.
