Marrón Emperador Cheese Board in Dark Marble

The board is emperador marble, a deep brown stone shot through with lighter veining, cut to 14 by 13 inches with a defined rim and a polished top. Because it is natural stone, no two boards carry the same veining, and the dark ground makes pale cheeses, crackers, and fruit stand out without any arranging skill. Marble stays cool, which helps soft cheeses hold their shape through a long evening, and the three-quarter-inch thickness gives it enough heft to feel permanent on a counter. It is as much at home left out on a kitchen island as it is set down in the middle of the table.

Chill it for twenty minutes before a party, then set out three cheeses, one soft, one hard, one blue, and let the stone frame them.
